The Women in Design Committee works to create equitable opportunities for all gender identities in industrial design. Its vision is to empower women in the community and achieve parity across the field. The committee unifies and amplifies female designers’ voices, shares knowledge, fosters networks, and supports the founding of chapters nationwide by women, non-binary people, and equity allies.
Building Community Across IDSA Leadership
Build close relationships and collaborate on initiatives with IDSA chapter leaders, committees, councils and other stakeholders to strengthen the network of Women in Design.
Social Media Engagement
Actively manage and drive engagement in the Women in Design LinkedIn group by developing and implementing a cohesive strategy that aligns with the committee’s goals.
WID Professional Connections
Increase access and relationship between WID nationally through events, networking channels, or other methods.
Partnering with IDSA on National Initiatives
Support innovative ideas in partnership with the IDSA Board of Directors to shape the future of Women in Design initiatives.
Authoring a Voice for WID
Lead the delivery of an editorial article for each INNOVATION magazine from the WID Committee perspective.
Champion Data
Support IDSA research as well as gather existing data related to WID to see trends and tell stories.
Deep Dive Conference Planning
Create an amazing in-person Deep Dive event together with IDSA staff by engaging local chapter and universities, scoping the look of branding, conducting outreach to potential speakers and sponsors, selecting speakers, and agenda planning.
Committee Member Criteria:
- Composition: Up to eight (8) members. This is inclusive of committee Chair and Chair-Elect and representative of IDSA Districts and various cultural backgrounds, identities, abilities, and industry experience.
- Qualifications: IDSA members in good standing who identify as female or non-binary and have an educational background in industrial design. Strong initiative and ability to contribute meaningful ideas to advance WID initiatives and enthusiasm for building relationships and working closely with others to achieve shared goals preferred.
- Meetings: Monthly.
- Commitment Required: Five to ten (5-10) hours per month plus participation in a minimum of eight (8) meetings (monthly) per year.
- Term: One (1) year; up to two (2) consecutive terms. Term begins January 1.
