Awards Committee

This committee is primarily responsible for reviewing nominations and making award recipient recommendations for the IDSA Awards. IDSA Awards is a collection of awards, including IDSA’s prestigious Academy of Fellows, presented in recognition of significant contribution to the Society or the industrial design profession, excellence in academic advancement, or personal achievement. 

Vision

The Awards Committee strives to always ensure that the IDSA Awards given out are relevant and valued by our membership. The IDSA Awards program should be representative of the needs and contributions of all current members and provide a point of inspiration for members of the future. 

Mission

The Committee’s mission has three (3) important components:

  1. Always work to increase member’s understanding of the IDSA Awards program.
  2. Always strive to increase applications and nominations.
  3. Showcase a diverse and inclusive range of award recipients.

Key Tasks

Ensure that the IDSA awards are presented to deserving individuals and organizations based on the criteria of each recognition

  • Assess the qualifications of candidates without bias.
  • Adequately review candidate materials to inform your decisions.
  • Meet with the Awards Committee to discuss and make selections.
  • Evaluate awards submissions and recommend recipients (as needed).
  • Identify opportunities for making improvements to the IDSA Awards program for future years.

Committee Composition & Creation

The committee consists of six appointed members and is Chaired by the At-Large Director – Awards on the Board of Directors. Other members of the committee typically include a combination of IDSA Fellows, educators, and professional designers. Members of this committee hold a one year term and may serve two consecutive terms. The awards committee is appointed annually by the Board Chair and approved by the Board of Directors.
