Gerald “Jerry” Edward Proctor of Pittsburgh, a lifetime member of IDSA and the organizer of IDSA’s Mid-Atlantic Chapter, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015. He was 81.
Proctor earned a degree in industrial design from UCLA in 1955, and an MBA with a focus of marketing from Baltimore’s Loyola University in 1981. He served two years in the US Army, then moved to New York City in 1959 to begin his career with Peter Schladermundt Associates, known worldwide for industrial and graphic design and corporate identity work.
In 1971, Proctor joined Westinghouse Corporate Design Center in Pittsburgh and later transferred to the center’s Hunt Valley, MD location. n 1988, Proctor became a partner in Bally Design with founder Alex Bally, who is mourning the loss of his friend and colleague. “He made significant contributions to our firm such as pulling off a unique exchange program with designers and design firms in Europe,” Bally recalls. “He also extended our practice into exhibit and science museum design, and he managed several challenging design projects and client relationships.”
Proctor also held two patents for equipment used in hospitals and patient care.
His family asks any donations in Proctor’s name, be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
