Dosun Shin | Arizona Co-Chair
Prof. Shin is an associate professor and program coordinator of industrial design in The Design School at Arizona State University (ASU). He received his Master of Fine Arts degree in Industrial Design from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2003. He has been a practicing industrial designer since 1999, and has worked for both design consultancies as well as corporations. He currently serves as a design consultant in the areas of medical equipment and consumer products. He has received more than 15 design awards including IDEA (International Design Excellence Awards) and MDEA (Medical Design Excellence Awards).
The research Professor Shin has undertaken at ASU is informed by his professional experience and expertise in the area of product design and development. His research interests center around the “humanization of technology” with a specific focus on assistive devices for people with physical limitations. Since he joined ASU in 2004, he has conducted many collaborative research projects based on grants from U.S. government agencies (NIH), corporations (Proctor & Gamble, Samsung Design America), and local companies. He has recently worked on a joint research project with Mayo Clinic, ASU’s BioDesign Institute and Center for Healthcare Innovation & Clinical Trials developing human factors and design for a new IV pole.
He teaches design studio, computer-aided design, 2D graphics, 3D virtual modeling and rendering and rapid prototyping courses for undergraduate and graduate students.
