Claudia Rebola Winegarden | Atlanta Outreach Coordinator
Claudia Rebola is an Assistant Professor in the School of Industrial Design at Georgia Institute of Technology. She is director of the Design And Technologies for Healthy Aging (DATHA), head of the D-Matters Studio Lab housed at the Center for Assistive Technologies and Environmental Access (CATEA), and co-director of the Responsive Objects Surfaces and Spaces (ROSS) housed at GVU, Georgia Institute of Technology. Her research and teaching interests focus on human-centered approaches to the combined areas of industrial design, inclusive design, interaction design/tangible interfaces, healthcare and aging research exploring basic research and applications of communication products.
A native of Argentina, she holds a Ph.D. in Information Design and a Master of Industrial Design from North Carolina State University, and a Bachelor of Industrial Design from Universidad Nacional de Cordoba.
During her academic career, Dr. Rebola was the recipient of numerous awards, among them the Fulbright-Hays Grant, Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Sigma Delta, and an Argentinean presidential recognition for outstanding academic achievements in the design discipline and competition awards.
Evident early in her career, she engages interchangeably her skills as a comprehensive designer, artist, researcher and educator. Her approaches are integrative, understanding the invaluable need for, and practice of research in design and research by design in combining theoretical studies, scientific research with technological development and artistic practice. She applies a holistic and multidisciplinary approach towards inclusive design and the integration of physical objects with seamless technologies. Her overarching goal is to humanize technology through design with an interest in enriching and augmenting the human experience with the environment and celebrating the value of simplicity and tangibility in user-product interactions.
Her work has been showcased at CNN Edge of Discovery Special, published at “Becoming a Product Designer” by Bruce Hannah, published at Interactions ACM, exhibited at museum and galleries such as Museum of Modern Design Atlanta, Eyedrum, Modern Atlanta, and worked for companies such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), DaimlerChrysler, EMI S.A., Coviplan, Lowes Design Department, Junior Achievement, Vietri Inc., Presentation Strategies Inc., to mention a few.
