Chris Parke, IDSA, is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) who serves as the packaging innovation manger at Newell Brands in Huntersville, NC. He works with a team of industrial designers and packaging engineers to develop new packaging solutions, while researching how simple changes can elevate the entire unboxing experience of Newell products for the user.

Previously, Parke was a senior designer for TTi Floorcares Dirt Devil brand, working in partnership with the marketing and engineering teams to guide the direction of Dirt Devil products to match their target consumer.

Over his 14-year career, Parke has worked for small and large companies developing point of purchase displays, consumer products and commercial/industrial products for 15+ brands.

From 2011 to 2015, Parke served as the South District VP on IDSA’s Board of Directors. He also held various roles in the IDSA Carolina Chapter.

Statement of Candidacy

I am honored and excited to run for At-Large Director (Conferences) on IDSA’s Board of Directors. Over the past few years, IDSA has made some great strides in regaining its position as a leader in the industrial design community; however, the journey is far from over.

As At-Large Director, I’d like to help designers continue to realize the value of IDSA and figure out ways to engage designers on the fringe, particularly through conferences. This year, we are executing an important redesign of the International Design Conference (IDC) that hopefully will lay the groundwork for higher caliber and more design discipline inclusive events.

My combined experience as a local chapter and national district leader has given me a clear understanding of what IDSA was, and what IDSA can be. I plan to take the lessons learned from my past roles and use them to improve the Society and help it to continue to become a world-class design organization for professionals and students.

The field of design has changed and so must we.  I look forward to working with the new Board, the IDSA staff and our volunteers to continue the journey.
