The purpose of the study is to experiment with the core principles, processes, and tools of Design Thinking and Systems Engineering through the application of methodologies from these fields to a commercial cislunar space development project. The paper briefly describes the history of the two methodologies and discusses the process undertaken by an interdisciplinary team to address a complex system design challenge in the aerospace industry. The project resulted in the creation of a Human-Centered System Design Inspiration Toolkit to educate and inspire designers and engineers with cross-disciplinary frameworks. The paper concludes by discussing the need for a holistic design methodology and new frameworks that can address systemic challenges.
