The Dunchon Jugong Apt. Complex Redevelopment is South Korea’s largest reconstruction project (12,032 units), replacing old apartments with modern construction and eco-friendly design. Since the initial urban plan in 2006, it has undergone multiple revisions over 20 years, creating a sustainable residential complex connecting Korea’s past and present housing. In accordance with Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Creative Urban Regeneration Guidelines, the residential environment fosters a people and place-centered, futuristic community. The plan harmonizes with the local landscape, incorporates an open street layout, and includes shared facilities that connect with the neighborhood. The project reflects evolving lifestyles and family structures with diverse unit plans and community spaces while integrating nearby education, transport, and commerce for broader benefits. By applying sustainable building techniques and eco-friendly design, it enhances energy efficiency and reduces carbon emissions. This project sets a new standard for redevelopment and serves as a global model for urban regeneration.
