
RIT Professor and Director of the School of Design
Alex Lobos is a designer, educator, and researcher whose work spans the fields of sustainability, emotional design, generative AI technologies, and inclusive innovation. He serves as Professor and Director of the School of Design at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where leads initiatives in global education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and curricular innovation. With over two decades of experience, Alex has worked with global institutions and companies, including Autodesk, General Electric, Makerbot, and Stryker, championing the use of digital fabrication, sustainable practices, and human-centered design.
A Research Fellow Emeritus at Autodesk and a Fulbright Scholar, Alex is the recipient of the IDSA Education Award and was recognized as Autodesk’s Industry Community Leader of the Year. Alex is deeply committed to mentoring emerging designers and shaping the future of design education, and his research has been featured in peer-reviewed journals, international design conferences, and publications including INNOVATION magazine and The New York Times. He has served as Juror for world-renown design competitions such as Core77, IDEA, and Bienal Iberoamericana de Diseño. Alex holds an MFA in Industrial Design from the University of Notre Dame and a BID from Universidad Rafael Landivar in Guatemala.
