Firm Founded by Former IDSA President Turns 45 with Rebranding and Relocation

Jul 13 2015 - 11:38am

It’s quite a year for industrial design as IDSA marks its 50th anniversary and IDEA celebrates its 35th, a major product design and engineering firm in the City of Brotherly Love is turning 45!

And not only is Bresslergroup rebranding, it’s moving to a new space for the first time in 20 years—from Marketplace Design Center to the Young, Smyth, Field Building at 1216-1220 Arch Street in Philadelphia. It’s a location that Bresslergroup quips is “known by some as the Loft District and by others as the Convention Center District and by some of our staff as 'Half A Block From Reading Terminal Market.'”

The “new” loft location has design, engineering and manufacturing running through its veins as well. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places as an “uncommon surviving example of a Classical Revival light industrial building in Philadelphia.” Young, Smyth, Field was built for about $200,000 in 1901-02.

Bresslergroup was founded in 1970 by Peter Bressler, FIDSA, a former president and secretary-treasurer of IDSA who was honored with the IDSA Personal Recognition Award in 2010. Bressler sold the firm to partners Mike Flanagan, Mathieu Turpault, IDSA, and Andrew Weiman in 2011, but has stayed on as a consultant. Bressler also serves as co-chair of IDSA's Design Protection Section and the faculty advisor to the new IDSA Student Chapter at the University of Pennsylvania.
