Qin Li, IDSA, is an at-large director on IDSA's Board of Directors. She is especially focused on IDSA's International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), one of the world's most rigorous and prestigious design competitions, which is marking its 37th year in 2017. Li is responsible for developing strategic recommendations on IDEA's brand recognition, inclusiveness and outreach to the design community and beyond, and on global exposure for winners.

"IDSA, IDEA and INNOVATION magazine have been a source of great inspiration throughout my career as an industrial designer in China and the United States. I look forward to helping IDSA grow its support of the design community through broader impact around the world."

Li wrote "Seeing Through Design" in the Spring 2016 INNOVATION. She is a former juror in design competitions. Since 2012, Li has served as the director of industrial design at fuseproject, the integrated design studio founded by Yves Behar, IDSA, in 1999. In 2017, she became VP of design at fuseproject. Originally from China, she received her bachelor’s degree in industrial design from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art.  During her studies in industrial and graphic design, she worked at one of the top design consultancies in China, Jimei Design.

In 2001, Li moved to San Francisco. She earned a master’s of industrial design at the Academy of Art University (AAU) and worked at LUNAR on projects with HP and Oral-B.

Since 2004 at fuseproject, Li has worked on a variety of designs for furniture, consumer electronics, interior spaces, health care and more. She led development of the Herman Miller PUBLIC Office Landscape + SAYL Chair; UP; ERA; Jambox; ICON for Jawbone; and projects with Movado, Samsung, MIT Media Lab, among others. Li is responsible for the entire design process from ideation through production, working across disciplines to create cohesive design experiences through product, brand and digital platforms.

She’s also served as a directed study advisor for the MFA program at AAU and as an adjunct professor at California College of the Arts (CCA).
