Tom Powers, IDSA | Philadelphia Vice-Chair
Tom was IDSA Philly Chapter Chair from 2008 to 2010 and Chapter Vice-Chair from 2010 to 2012. During his tenure, he organized many community events, which created awareness and inspired design quality through education. Tom received a B.S. in Industrial Design from the University of the Arts and graduated in 1993. With 16 years’ experience, Tom is currently a freelance designer working for several product development firms in the greater Philadelphia area. For the past 9 years, Tom was a senior industrial designer at Definitive Design in Langhorne, PA and has also worked for [Eleven] LLC. in Boston, MA. Working primarily for consultancies, Tom has been exposed to many different opportunities in the consumer, commercial, military, industrial and medical product industries. Tom believes and understands good design is the result of design research, as well as the integration of marketing, manufacturing, and engineering and strives to achieve this in everything he designs. As a result, he has earned 19 patents and won several awards including the 2007 Design Medical Excellence Award.
