Statement of Candidacy
My name is Robert Moser and I am running for the position of IDSA Chapters VP.
I have served the Industrial Designers Society of America for the past eight years as a chairman or vice-chairman for the Texas and Michigan chapters. My involvement with the society has been one of the most beneficial relationships I’ve had during my design career. The society has given me a network of extraordinary friends and colleagues, has exposed me to ideas that have helped me grow as a designer and has enabled me to excel professionally. The IDSA has had a tremendous impact upon the person I am today. I choose to serve this community in an effort to ensure that others have the opportunity to benefit from it the way I have.
I would be honored to continue my service through the role of chapter vice president. I have a diverse background which includes many different design roles: product designer, graphic designer, MBA, student, consultant, corporate, educator, production, advanced, manager, entrepreneur. This background has shown me that designers come in many different shapes and sizes and have many different expectations and desires for IDSA experiences. It is the role of the chapters to fulfill these and it will be my goal as the chapter vice president to ensure that the organization makes this possible.
If elected, it is my intention to build upon the successes enjoyed during the tenure of my predecessors, but also to plot the best course to support our discipline. Industrial design has enjoyed an incredible growth in reputation from business over the past few years. With this growth, we also have seen expanding diversity in roles within our profession. We now see designers sitting on corporate boards, employed by venture capitalists, defining entirely new experiences and businesses. Industrial design is expanding and IDSA chapters must continue to adapt to provide our members with the content they most need.
Strong chapters and relevant experiences, this will be my focus.
