Rhys Newman, IDSA | Nokia, IDEA Chair
Rhys Newman is head of advanced projects at Nokia where he leads a multi-disciplinary design team in Helsinki and Los Angeles. He established the strategic projects team specifically to bring creativity, designers and designing to the heart of Nokia corporate strategy, business development and decision-making.
Newman is also an artist and maker. He draws voraciously, builds public art and personal discursive projects. He has held part-time faculty positions at Art Centre, Pasadena and Goldsmiths University, London.
He earned his master’s in industrial design from the Royal College of Art, London after receiving a bachelor’s in three dimensional design from University of Wales in Cardiff. He is Welsh; lives in California and bicycles are his ideology.
