Michael Seres was diagnosed at the age of only 12 with the incurable bowel condition Crohn’s Disease. In late 2011, he became the 11th person to undergo a small bowel transplant in the United Kingdom, at The Churchill Hospital in Oxford. He started blogging about his journey; now, “beingapatient” has more than 95,000 followers. Seres uses social media to develop global, online, peer-to-peer communities covering 20,000 patients. His passion is mentoring patients and their families. Seres is a published author and professional speaker. He has become the patient lead for #NHSSM, a facilitator for Centre for Patient Leadership and digital strategy advisor to The Oxford Transplant Foundation where he helped implement the first Skype clinics. He is also founder of health tech start up 11Health.
