Studied with: Max Sims, Ted Rentería, Mark Bolick, Dallas Good
Martha McGowan enjoys being a problem-solver, who engages with the diversity of backgrounds to address children’s needs. She would like to design educational toys and toys for children with physical disabilities.
McGowan is organized and detail-oriented, as well as to work in a fast-paced line of production. She likes to think outside of the box and explore other perspectives and possibilities.
Her most valuable lesson in the practice of design that she has acquired thus far is to expect the unexpected. Research, observe, and interact with the user.
Her thesis research included aspects of child development. She studied the influence that social environments exert on helping children reach their full potential when self-expression and creativity are fostered. It was a transformation of ideas the evolved from one concept to the final product.
McGowan would like to explore the possibility of integrating products that enhance these experiences through imagination and interaction. Her goal is to develop an educational toy that reinforces the capabilities of children to their full potential.
