Lauren Peters, IDSA

Maker Outreach Specialist, Harris County Public Libraries Lauren Peters, IDSA, is a recent University of Houston graduate with a degree in industrial design and a minor in energy and sustainability. Lauren works as a Maker Outreach Specialist for Harris County Public Libraries, where she facilitates educational programs on fabrication, CAD, design thinking, and STEAM principles throughout the library system. She is motivated to remove barriers from the design field and provide access to digital fabrication opportunities, regardless of experience or resources. Lauren’s interests focus on creating efficient and delightful user experiences, especially through the application of information architecture strategies. During her time at the University of Houston, Lauren served as president of the student IDSA board, 2019-2020. Her team coordinated the IDesign Conference for students and professionals, raised funds to send students to SXSW, hosted professional workshops and panels, and promoted community within the UH program. She was awarded the 2020 IDSA Texas Chapter Special Recognition – Leadership award, and Outstanding Academic Achievement in Undergraduate Industrial Design. In her role as Treasurer/Secretary for IDSA Houston, Lauren looks forward to promoting professional development and networking events across Houston and developing a strong community of designers.
