Damon Jurkiewicz is the senior industrial designer in the Concept Engineering Group of the Invacare Corp., headquartered in Northeast Ohio. His position, which originally began with a graduate internship and thesis sponsorship, has evolved into a 10-year career at Invacare that has included the development of 11 power mobility platforms and a wide range of rehab seating products. His current focus includes powered wheelchairs, adaptive electronics, alternative controls, complex therapeutic seating and positioning devices. Before becoming the first industrial designer at Invacare, he spent three years as the first industrial design model shop manager at The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) where he helped evolve their fledgling program and facilities. Jurkiewicz’s holds a bachelor’s in fine arts in metals and jewelry and graduate studies in industrial design from SCAD. Additionally, he has received eight US patents.
