Walter Herbst founded Herbst LaZar Bell Inc. that grew to be one of the largest independently owned design firms in the country with a staff of more than 100 professionals in three offices. Founded in 2012, his current firm, Herbst Produkt, has offices in San Francisco, Chicago and Shanghai. Herbst Produkt has already established itself as an award-winning firm with multiple Red Dot and IDEA awards. Herbst is a full clinical professor at Northwestern University where he instituted and directs its master of product design and development program. BusinessWeek magazine recognized the program as one of the top 30 in the world teaching design thinking. Herbst holds more than 125 patents. He was recognized by Businessweek as one of the “Best of the Decade” for his design work with the Gillette Co.
