Garrett Simmer, IDSA | Case-Mate
Student Merit Award for Georgia Tech – 2008
Garrett Simmer is a designer and entrepreneur in Atlanta, GA. Since graduating from Georgia Tech in 2008, he co-founded a company and was the lead industrial designer at Case-Mate for the last three years. His career goals include expanding his repertoire and getting outside of his comfort zone. Garrett loves diving into new areas of design, and this has taken him from product design to graphic design and even packaging.
Lalabu, the company he started, will be releasing its first product soon – a radically simple baby carrier for moms. After three years of research, testing, prototyping, and fundraising, the product is in production and will be available in the fall of 2013. Garrett designed the product, the company branding, and orchestrated production with a factory in California. He was deeply involved in all aspects of development.
At Case-Mate, Garrett led and managed a team of four other designers to develop unique cases and covers for cell phones and tablets. His products have generated millions of dollars in revenue and are sold in 77 countries worldwide. He collaborated closely with engineers and vendors in Asia to take his designs to production. He is listed on ten patents (both utility and design).
