Caroline Baumann is director of the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum and oversees the only museum in the nation devoted exclusively to historic and contemporary design. She joined the Cooper-Hewitt in 2001 and has held many leadership positions at the museum, including Acting Director, Associate Director and Deputy Director. Baumann has spearheaded the most ambitious capital project in the museum’s history, raising over $87 million to date toward a $91 million goal. Housed in the Carnegie Mansion, the new Cooper-Hewitt will reopen in late 2014 with 60 percent more gallery space, immersive museum spaces, pioneering digital strategies and participatory visitor experiences.
