IDSA-STL Design and Engineering Regional Meeting

Members of the IDSA STL Chapter and Tacony Corporation would like to invite you to a regional event promoting networking and the opportunity to participate in multiple short design presentations topics. The event is designed for designers, engineers and innovators located around St. Louis. It will include a one hour meet and greet social 5:30-6:30 PM, presentations and handouts on intellectual property, in-mold decoration injection graphic panels, and opportunity to review Gravity Sketch 3D RV program.

More Than Pen Meets Paper

 

Have you heard of ‘Sketchnoting,’ ‘Visual Note-taking’ or ‘Graphic Recording’? You may or may not have, either way in this article we will discuss how we use it and how we framed a workshop around it at the IDC 2018 (International Design Conference 2018) in New Orleans. We (Teddy Lu, IDSA, and Verena Paepcke-Hjeltness, IDSA) are educators who are using sketchnoting in the classroom, which we discussed in a paper called Design for Visual Empowerment.

IDSA-SF Unconscious Bias Discussion

 

Join IDSA-SF Thursday, November 8th at 5:00pm for an informal, honest and inspiring discussion on the unconscious biases that exist in the design work place. We will discuss some of the systemic challenges, and the individual changes and strategies that other design professionals have implemented that lead to opportunities in establishing new positive behavior change for them, their teams and their own careers.

IDSA has embarked on a bold and progressive transformation. While these trends are certainly not new, the way in which IDSA must respond to them is. This position demands that IDSA think critically and creatively about how we deliver a meaningful membership experience to you as a member, as well as for our extended community of designers across the country.

 

Women & Design: Building Diversity in Industrial Design

It’s no secret that industrial design is still a boy’s club. Statistics differ from source to source, but there seems to be a general agreement that women make up somewhere between 10–15 percent of industrial designers. To those in the industry, this doesn’t come as a surprise, despite the efforts that have been made to equalize women in all industries in the last few decades. Somehow, industrial design has been left behind.
