What began as a student concept that captured worldwide attention when it won Best in Show, Gold and People’s Choice in IDSA’s International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2007—has come full circle almost ten years later as it once again wins three major IDEAs in 2016.
An IDSA life member is marking more than three decades of service on the Design Advisory Council at the School of Industrial and Graphic Design (SIGD) in Auburn University’s College of Architecture, Design and Construction (CADC). David CF Stoddard, L/IDSA, is an Auburn alumnus who has made his own mark on ID, and has helped countless young designers at his alma mater succeed.
Charles Jones, FIDSA, has joined Intuitive Surgical, Inc. as senior vice president and CDO, design and user experience. He leads the company’s efforts to blend technology with enhanced, human-centered design thinking—while driving a consistent design experience for Intuitive products and services. Intuitive Surgical is a global technology leader in minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgery.
Robert Brunner, IDSA, of Ammunition Design Group served as keynote speaker in September 2016 at the Portland Creative Conference. Brunner says he was encouraged to become an engineer to follow in his father’s footsteps, but found his own calling when he saw a display of industrial design products.

In recognition of his contribution to scholarship that extends from teaching freshmen the basics of perspective—to supervising PhD students in the quest for new industrial design knowledge—Mark Evans, PhD, I/IDSA, has been honored with the Indsutrial Designers Society of America's Education Award for 2016.

After successfully hosting IDSA’s International Conference 2016, Detroit welcomed yet another sensational design event celebrating its UNESCO City of Design designation. Designers—and fans of design—gathered from Sept. 21–25 for the sixth annual Detroit Design Festival.
His 40-year plus career has spanned the manufacturing, corporate, not-for-profit and consulting fields—both as a designer and a team leader—and placed him at the forefront of design education.
