California-based Compass Product Design, Inc., founded by IDSA Member Curt Anderson, has been acquired by Molded Devices, Inc. (MDI)—a leading, plastic molding and contract manufacturing firm.

“By joining with MDI, we will be able to provide our clients with manufacturing resources and capabilities,” says Anderson, who is staying on with Compass after the acquisition and expects no changes with his staff in Pleasanton, CA. “We now have the facilities to take a product from the initial concept stage, through design and engineering, prototypes, tooling and into final assembly.”

MDI is a full-service, ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certified molder with locations in Riverside, CA, Tempe, AZ, Miamisburg, OH, Sellersville, PA and Oshkosh, WI. MDI also has acquired Bates Industries, an OEM provider of disposable medical devices and components in South Glens Falls, NY.

Established in 1963, MDI offers injection molding, dip molding, machining and light assembly, and has been on the leading edge of plastic part fabrication.

Compass offers industrial design, product engineering, prototyping and production services. Since 1989, it has served more than 200 clients in markets including medical devices; laboratory equipment; consumer electronics; business and office products; sporting goods; and toys.
