Hailing her as “a genius of many mediums,” Fast Company puts IDSA’s Board of Directors member Ayse Birsel in the spotlight this month in the latest installment of the “Generation Flux” video series.

The co-founder of New York City-based Birsel and Seck and IDSA Board education vice president is interviewed by Yale and Harvard graduate Casey Gerald, who asks Birsel everything from how she found her industrial design calling in a teacup, to her purpose and her future.

“My strategic intent is to design the life I love,” reveals Birsel. “I hope that people learn from me that life is a design project. It’s risky, you don’t always know how it’s going to turn out, but why not create your own, original life?”

The Fulbright Scholar holds a master’s degree in industrial design from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Birsel also is a graduate of Turkey’s Middle East Technical University. Her work can be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum and Philadelphia Museum of Art.
