IDEA Winners Revealed at the IDEA Ceremony and Gala

 

Gold, Silver and Bronze International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) winners from around the world attended the IDEA Ceremony on Sept. 19 at the beautiful National WWII Museum in New Orleans, LA. Awardees and International Design Conference (IDC) goers dressed to impress and waited with anticipation as the winners of each category and the special awards were revealed.

Design At Work

 

More than 400 people attended Design Day 2018: Design At Work at the United States Patent & Trade Office (USPTO) headquarters in Alexandria, VA, and another 200 viewed the conference from USPTO remote locations. This year’s event featured presentations by noted designers and attorneys from Kohler, Microsoft and Caterpillar, who discussed in detail how design and design patent protections have been essential to the success of their respective corporations.

Salone del Mobile, the annual Italian furniture and furnishings expo in Milan, Italy, is one of the most important and vibrant design spectacles our industry observes each year. This year–2018–marked the 57th year of the event and drew an attendance of nearly 435,000 from all over the world.

EXPERIENCE – IDSA Medical Conference 2018

 

IDSA's commitment to the medical design profession has been growing over the past few years. This is exemplified by the annual Medical Design Conference, the most recent of which was on March 28 & 29, 2018 in Boston, MA. During two days of focused content, over 100 medical design professionals participated in hands-on workshops and heard from some of the top thinkers in the field.

At the Helm

IDSA has appointed a new interim executive director. On Jan. 2, 2018, Chris Livaudais—a designer and longtime member of IDSA—succeeded Daniel Martinage, CAE, who led the organization from 2012 to 2017.

Opening Pathways

For the first time, an IDSA chapter has been formed in India. The IDSA Student Chapter at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) was launched in 2017 at a ceremony attended by more than 200 students, faculty and staff. Special guests included Sathiya Seelan, transportation designer, Ashok Leyland motor company; Govindasamy Vishwanathan, founder and chancellor, VIT; Anand Samuel, pro vice chancellor, VIT; and Natarajan Arivazhagan, dean, School of Mechanical Engineering, VIT.
