The Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) has filed an amicus brief in Converse, Inc.’s Feb. 1, 2017 federal circuit court appeal of the June 2016 International Trade Commission (ITC) decision on trademarks on the iconic Chuck Taylor All Star shoes.
A new year welcomes a new IDSA Ambassador—Covestro. Dubbed by its CEO Patrick Thomas as a “one-year startup with a 60-year history”—Covestro, since September 2015, has carried on the tradition of Bayer MaterialScience with global headquarters in Germany and US headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Panel Discussion: The design Economy
Design is all around us and has been a driver of culture and trade. When we talk of 'design', thoughts and images that pop-up in our minds are mostly aesthetic in nature. However, the fuel that drives the engine of design is commerce. So, how can we approach the discussion of the economic impact of design? We are now stepping into 2017 and IDSA NYC presents a discussion regarding the economics of design from the point of view of panelists from the worlds of retail, design education, economic development, talent recruitment, and design consulting.
Questions we will address: How are businesses that are based on design doing in 2016? How has the nature of projects changed over the last few years and what can they expect going forward? Further, how is design education evolving? How is design impacting the economics of NYC and what can we expect to see in the future? What kind or remuneration can graduates and professionals expect from the world of design today?
Come join us for the second round of SketchGames on Wednesday, November 30th at Pepsi's Design and Innovation Center. Our first games at Canary were great fun. Once again we’re looking forward to bringing people together for some food, drink and bad ideas.
