Studios in Steel City Shine in Industrial “Strength” Design

#CDDC16 Announces Pittsburgh Studio Tours

Apr 4 2016 - 1:32pm

The IDSA 2016 Central District Design Conference (CDDC) is offering attendees a chance to get up close and personal with some of Pittsburgh’s best design studios. “Conference-goers also will be able to check out top notch design work and meet some of the brightest design talent in Steel City for Industrial 'Strength' Design," says Conference Chair Jeevak Badve, IDSA Board of Directors Central District VP.

Meet at MAYA even before CDDC begins on April 1:

  • 8:30–9am  Attendees can network and experience a rousing welcome from Badve.
  • 9–9:15am  Welcome by MAYA CEO, Dutch MacDonald.
  • 9:15–10:15am  Francine Gemperle and Steve Spencer host an interactive and engaging session on "Designing in an Era of Complexity."
  • 10:15–11am  Attendees can go behind-the-scenes in MAYA's studio tour.

For more than 25 years, this firm—located at 444 Liberty Avenue, Suite 1600—has designed collaborative systems, engaging experiences and next-gen products for the world’s greatest brands. You’ll see real-world examples of how MAYA has designed for complex systems to change how people engage with products and information. But there’s a limit of 30 people. THIS EVENT HAS REACHED CAPACITY

Also on April 1, a studio visit is set for Daedalus, 4923 Centre Ave., from  6:45 to 9pm. There will be food, drink, and fun! Daedalus is just under a mile from the Carnegie Museum of Art. The studio provides a full slate of research, design, human factors, engineering and manufacturing transition services to medical, scientific, consumer and industrial product companies. The Daedalus team has helped bring hundreds of successful products to market for companies ranging from startups to the Fortune 50.

April 2, check out Bally Design Inc., at 810 Penn Avenue #3 from 7 to 8:30pm. There will be a design discussion, product experience and perhaps most importantly—friends and prizes! “The world is in constant motion and design moves with it—new people, new ideas, new vision, new experiences—designed to enrich lives.” Founded more than 40 years ago at the very birth of experience design, Bally’s downtown studio will offer fun activities and award-winning creations.

But wait, don’t call it a night yet! Move on to 4Moms from 8:30 to 10pm at 912 Fort Duquesne Blvd. A tour and some product experience mixed with some light snacks and drinks is the perfect recipe for fun! Since 2005, 4Moms has leveraged innovative design, robotics and technology to disrupt and redefine existing industries such as baby gear. It’s been recognized for five years by Inc. magazine as one of the fastest-growing private companies in the United States with products sold at buybuy BABY, Target and Babies R Us.
