The Story of Making

Collaboration and Inspiration at Winter SHiFT

Nov 30 2015 - 8:35am

This winter, SHiFT heads to Bays Mountain Park and Planetarium in Kingsport, TN. From Dec. 13–19, 2015, participants will interact with global material experts and local craftspeople and be immersed in local history and the Story of Making. Register now.

“If you’re an awesome young designer, seasoned professional or maybe just someone who loves meeting like-minded people and making, this is for you,” says SHiFT Director and Co-founder Owen Foster, IDSA, who is the 2015 IDSA Educator of the Year and a 2015 and 2016 IDSA International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) juror. “Be inspired by exploring the 3,500 acre nature preserve that Bays Mountain has to offer, which features a 44-acre lake, nature center, planetarium and animal habitats.”

Foster believes the camp helps attendees escape the routine and engage with the natural world that’s often overlooked. “Collaborate with makers and designers from around the world, sleep under the stars and be energized by amazing stories,” he says.

The event is sponsored by companies such as P&G, IDSA Ambassador Eastman Chemical and the Eastman Innovation Lab, which according to SHiFT Director and Co-Founder John McCabe, IDSA, “provides an approachable, youthful, strategic, modern, energetic, accessible and provocative face” to their impact on the materials and processing sector.

Other sponsors supporting the event are  IDSA, Bays Mountain Park, Seven Springs Lodge and Rattlesnake Saloon. Follow the excitement on Instagram and Twitter @shiftdesigncamp #shiftTN #betheshift15 and on Facebook @shiftdesign.
