The Nature of Design Takes Columbus by Storm

Apr 20 2015 - 7:50am

The IDSA Central District Design Conference: The Nature of Design, sponsored by GE Appliances, is underway at the Joseph V. Canzani Center at the Columbus College of Art and Design.

The schedule kicked off April 17 with a visit to Lextant Labs and a pre-conference workshop by Lextant Vice President of Research Marty Gage, IDSA. Attendees were welcomed to #IDSACentral15 by Central District Vice President Jeevak Badve; Dean Tom Gattis, IDSA, Columbus College of Art and Design and IDSA Executive Director Daniel Martinage. "The excitement is building," says Martinage. "It's a meeting of the minds as hundreds of professional and student members come together and exchange ideas in a vibrant venue."

Afternoon sessions feature Tom Hardy; Michael Luh; Tonya Matthews, PhD; Reade Harpham; Tom Gattis; and Joel Kashuba.

The conference rocks from 6:30 to 9:30pm. Paul Kolada of Priority Designs delivers a 30-minute talk followed by live music by his firm's house band Locker 15.

The Saturday, April 18 lineup features a SCOOPS Meeting for student and professional chapter leaders; Artist Panel; and sessions by Mark Devon, Doug Paige and Matt Clayson.

That's followed by Student Merit Presentations, sponsored by Dassault Systemes Solidworks; workshops by IDSA members Owen Foster and John McCabe; and more sessions by Pete Foley, Bill Bowen and Tom DeMay, Jr.

A Portfolio Review sponsored by Eastman Innovation Lab is set for 5:15-6:30pm. And the conference wraps up with a Closing Party and Student Merit Award Presentations from 7:30-9:30pm and an After Party at Trident Design Studio from 10-11:30pm.

Other CDDC sponsors include: Agora, Kaleidoscope, SundbergFerar, College for Creative Studies, solidThinking, 3DVision Technologies, Avantech, KeyShot, Trident Design, LLC and Wacom.
