Making the World More Innovative

IDSA Members to Attend Bloomberg Businessweek Design 2016

Apr 1 2016 - 11:56am

IDSA members will be on hand for Bloomberg Businessweek Design 2016, set for April 11 at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco.

The conference will bring the world’s top designers and business leaders together to discover how design makes the world more innovative. Speakers include fuseproject Founder Yves Béhar, IDSA, who says he's excited to return to the stage at the event. "Bloomberg Businessweek does a fantastic job providing a holistic conversation around the current state of design," he explains. "It's a fantastic opportunity for me to share my thoughts, but more importantly, I always walk away with a broadened perspective and new learnings that inspire my practice."

Also in the lineup: San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Director Neal Benezra; Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum 2015 National Design Award winner in Product Design, Stephen Burks; New Presidio Parklands Project landscape architect James Corner; and many more speakers.

Paul Hatch, IDSA, president of TEAMS Design, is representing IDSA at the conference, which he says has become a “poster child for the way conferences have redefined themselves in the last decade.”

He adds, “One could argue that TED opened the door for this eclectic mix of short talks from a variety of disciplines, but conferences like this do a better job of reflecting our current zeitgeist—where value is created by simply intersecting business and design. And why not? We're living in the experience economy after all!” Hatch is speaking at IDSA’s Midwest District Design Conference, set for April 22-23.

Surya Vanka, IDSA, chair of IDSA’s 2015 International Conference, attended the Bloomberg event last year and will return this year. “I loved the roster of speakers, intimate size, excellent parties and conversations with attendees,” says the founder and principal of AUTHENTIC. “The behind-the-scenes studio tours were pretty awesome, too. I’m looking forward to this year’s conference.”

Ticket holders also will have access to a series of exclusive studio tours on April 12. Space is limited.
