Feb 12 2015 - 5:43pm

For the first time, a Cuban ambassador to Germany has visited one of that country’s leading design schools, helping to mark its 100th anniversary.

On Feb. 10, Cuban Ambassador to Germany Rene Mujica Cantelar toured the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle, Germany to assess its longtime collaboration with two Cuban schools.

Cantelar met with Rector and Industrial Design Professor Dieter Hofmann, product and system design, and Chancellor Wolfgang Stocker of the German university. The ambassador thanked the university for continuing to work with the Higher Institute of Arts (ISA) and the Higher Institute of Industrial Design (ISDI) in Havana. It’s a collaboration that dates back to the former German Democratic Republic.

The University of Art and Design currently has about 1,100 students and almost a dozen degree programs.
