The latest development in the Samsung v. Apple legal battle is making headlines. On August 13, 2015, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, DC rejected Samsung’s request for a full, 12-judge panel to hear the design patent infringement case brought against Samsung by Apple. Samsung was backed by Google, Facebook, eBay, Dell and HP in a “friend of the court” brief. According to the news reports, now, the US Supreme Court is the only legal option for Samsung. In May, a three-judge panel upheld damages against Samsung won by Apple. In 2012, a federal jury ruled Samsung violated several patents related to almost two dozen Apple products.
Last year, another federal jury found Samsung copied iPhone technology in more recent products and awarded damages to Apple. That case has been appealed to the Federal Circuit.
