IDSA Member Makes His Mark at One of the Top Design Schools

Student Chapter Advisor Attains Tenure and Promotion

The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) has announced that Alex Lobos, IDSA Student Chapter advisor since 2013, has earned tenure and will be promoted to the rank of associate professor in RIT’s acclaimed School of Design.

Lobos also is RIT’s Miller Chair for International Education, and serves as extended program faculty at the Golisano Institute for Sustainability.

His research focuses on sustainable design, emotional attachment and user-centered design. Lobos frequently publishes; lectures; and directs workshops in the United States, Canada, México, Guatemala, Panamá, Perú, Colombia and Taiwan. His research and academic work have been sponsored by major companies, including Autodesk, AT&T, Colgate-Palmolive, General Electric, Kraft, Staples, Sun Products, Unilever and Wegmans.

Lobos joined RIT in 2009. previously served on the faculty at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Universidad Rafael Landivar in Guatemala and worked as an industrial designer for General Electric and Whirlpool.  Lobos is a Fulbright Scholar and holds a master’s degree in fine arts from the University of Notre Dame and a bachelor’s degree in industrial design from Universidad Rafael Landivar.
