IDSA Fills in the Blanks as Boston Welcomes Design + __________

Conference Chair Pledges “High Energy” with “Solid, High-Level Content”

Apr 27 2015 - 12:54pm

The Northeast District Design Conference 2015 will be held April 24-25 at The Joseph B. Martin Conference Center at Harvard Medical School in Boston. Register onsite for the whole conference or just a day.

From 10:30-11:45am on April 24, a Portfolio Review at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design’s Tower Lobby will give the next generation of industrial designers, a jump start on their careers. "It will be a great opportunity to present my work to some fresh eyes," says Gabrielle LaFalam, a junior at MassArt.

Back at the conference center at 12:30pm, IDSA Board of Directors’ Education Vice President Ayse Birsel and Conference Chair and Northeast District VP Jeremy Van Hill will welcome attendees. “We will hear from both experts in related industries, as well as from designers who have taken on the related roles themselves,” says Van Hill.  “We will learn from real world experiences, successes and failures, around designers collaborating with other disciplines. We will gain insight on how to develop tangential value and, most importantly, how to develop best practices through cross-collaboration.”

Van Hill promises “high energy,” “a whole lot of fun” and “really solid, high-level content.”

The conference continues with Angela Yeh, IDSA, of Yeh Ideology offering networking tips and leading a Talent Networking Workshop sponsored by Eastman Innovation Lab.

That’s followed by afternoon sessions on “Unlocking People to Unlock Growth” by Carie Davis, formerly of Coca-Cola; “Creating the Cadillac World” by Melody Lee; and “IS, not AND” with Michael Schaeffer. At 6pm, join the Studio Open hosted by Eleven, Essential, Redfish and Sprout Studios.

Saturday begins with “Design + Engineering” featuring a panel including Greg Wolos of IDEO; Serge Roux of Cambridge Consultants and Mike Hanuschik, Stealth Mode Startup.

The Student Merit Award Presentations are set for 10:30am.

Afternoon sessions include “Design + Business” with Graham Tuttle of frog, Greg Pope of Parthenon-EY and Ti Chang of Crave.

Attendees can get hands-on in a skill session, then join “Design + Experience” with a panel including Justin Smith of Cartoon Network.

The Closing Party is set for 6pm; the After Party, hosted by the IDSA Boston Chapter, rocks at the House of Blues at 7:30pm.
