Sean M. Corcorran

Sean currently serves as General Manager of Steelcase Education (SE) in Grand Rapids, Michigan. From 2008 to 2011, Sean was Director of Product Development and Marketing for SE. Since co-founding this Steelcase business unit Sean has been responsible for research and development of  innovative new products for secondary and higher education, including the new Node™ classroom seating line, Verb™ classroom collection, Thread™ ultra-thin power distribution solution, and the Brody™ seating line for relaxed-focus work settings such as libraries, residence halls and in-between spaces. Since joining Steelcase Sean was also involved in the development of the Stanford dSchool.

From 2005 to 2008, Sean was Vice President of Product Development for Vecta and PolyVision.  In these positions, he was responsible for research and development of new education solutions including visual collaboration technologies, interactive whiteboards, and furniture for classrooms and other learning environments. 

Before joining PolyVision and Vecta, Sean spent 16 years at IDEO, the world’s premier design and innovation professional services firm.  He has more than twenty years of experience in design, engineering, product development, and innovation consulting. 

In addition Sean has lead teams and projects in the development of innovative new furniture and technology solutions for business applications, consumer telecommunications products such as the ubiquitous VOIP phone for Cisco, medical devices, semi-conductor manufacturing equipment, computer hardware, and household tools and appliances.  From 1985 to 1988, Sean was the Co-Founder and President of the Hardware Arts Group, a company that designed and developed high-tech, high design consumer products. 

Sean speaks globally on trends in education environments, innovation, and Design Thinking, holds many patents, and is a graduate in engineering from The University of California, Berkeley.
