What designer hasn’t dreamed of breaking out on his or her own? The appeal of being your own boss is undeniable: You retain control of your designs and are the first to profit from their successes. Moreover, the old hurdle of starting your own business, start-up capital, has been mitigated by crowdfunding and increasingly accessible 3D printing/ rapid prototyping. Designers are well equipped to be entrepreneurs. They are naturally curious and creative, trying to make change or an impression on the world around them.
So what’s holding you back?
The Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) Kentucky Chapter is proud to host a panel of speakers on the topic of “Designer as Entrepreneur.” We’ll hear real life examples of how local designers took an entrepreneurial approach in bringing concepts to life using methods such as crowdfunding, starting their own business, or utilizing design thinking to positively influence startups.
