INNOVATION: Spring 2014

Design/Art/Craft

Guest Editor: Scott Klinker

Welcome to INNOVATION, IDSA’s quarterly and one of the best places to learn about the practice of industrial design. Every issue of INNOVATION reaches IDSA’s membership, Fortune 500 companies, universities, associations, design consultancies and subscribers around the world.

The Spring 2014 INNOVATION explores the unique intersection of design, art and craft. Thirty years ago, the field of design was primarily about mass production. Since then, we’ve seen design discourse expand to include significant areas of overlap with the fine arts, crafts, architecture and fashion. If the industrial era gave us Industrial Design, then our current post-industrial era has given us an expanded field of ‘Design Culture’ that offers a wide range of perspectives on the man-made world.
