Over the years IDSA has been my pipeline into the professional design world. It’s so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and never really connect creatively outside of the walls of my corporate job. Having been involved at a Chapter level over the last 7 years, I have seen just how rewarding an active chapter is to both those involved and their surrounding communities. While acting as Chapter Chair of Indiana, we partnered with other design groups, hosted events at local companies, and overall really made an impact in the city of Indianapolis. We had a presence in the local design world. On the other hand, participating in quarterly District conference calls and physical meetings helped me build relationships with designers I would never have met otherwise.
As Chapter Director I would work consistently to help foster these connections between chapters and encourage other chapter chairs to build up their own chapters. We are only as strong as our weakest Chapter. So CHEESY – but true. If we build value into our chapters, then we build value into our membership. There are so many resources available to chapters from a National level and I want to help bridge that gap. I am thankful for the increased communication that has begun amongst chapters over the past few years and I wish to continue that. I’d also like to continue to make it easier for officers to share best practices including online availability of event planning templates.
IDSA has helped me stay connected to designers from my past as well as introduced me to new, dare I say friends? I’d like to be a part of an organization that connects the right people for creating better design solutions.
