Carl Gustav Magnusson is an acclaimed industrial designer who has conceived products for clients such as Teknion, Knoll, MoMA Design Store and BMW.
Born in Sweden, Carl studied engineering and architecture at Chalmers Institute of Technology before working with Charles and Ray Eames in Los Angeles. He later joined Knoll for three decades as Global Director of Design, expanding the vision and influence of the brand while collaborating with luminaries such as Frank Gehry, Ettore Sottsass, Maya Lin and Ross Lovegrove.
In 2005, Carl founded Carl Gustav Magnusson Design LLC to focus on product design for Teknion, Allseating, iDesk, Baccarat and Momentum Textiles while lecturing on design matters at academic institutions and organizations such as BMW, Teknion, SCAD, Michael Graves College and IIDA.
Carl frequently juries design competitions for IF, Samsung and Yale School of Architecture and serves as an expert witness in legal cases related to design. He believes that "Design is function with cultural content."
