SUMMARY:IDSA SF: Designing for Friction
DESCRIPTION:Join IDSA SF and Samsung for an intimate talk with STEVE SELZER regarding the impact of an industrial designer’s inclination to design out friction. In today’s increasingly frictionless world\, it’s easier than ever to live a life of convenience and ease. But at what cost? What if the platforms we love are isolating us from different and opposing perspectives? What if\, as a result\, we’re becoming less empathetic and less resilient people? In this talk I’ll share thoughts on how design — and the products and platforms we love — can help us develop the mindset and skills to navigate and shape the future as it should be.\n \nSteve is a designer\, manager\, and creative leader. Over the last decade\, he has led and scaled design at Airbnb\, Frog Design\, and Fortune 500 companies spanning finance\, healthcare\, education\, and more. He is passionate about humanity-centered design and focused on building products that enrich our lives responsibly.\n \nSamsung Design Innovation Center is opening their doors to the design community by sponsoring a series of intimate events that foster connection and skill building. Seats for these events are extrmely limited.\n \nThe Samsung Design Innovation Center is a design–driven think tank located in downtown San Francisco. At SDIC\, we work on a range of projects from envisioning and prototyping far-future experiences to production-ready designs that will be shipped\, at scale. We’re a collaborative group of creative technologists\, researchers\, strategists\, designers\, and engineers that love to hack\, build\, and examine the implications of our designs. We take a holistic and purpose-oriented approach to designing meaningful future experiences\, enabled by advanced technologies.
