SUMMARY:IDSA ATL: Spectrum of Futures
DESCRIPTION:Partnered event with Speculative Futures and Art in Tech!\n\nHow do you think about the future? Do you approach it as an artist\, a technologist\, a designer\, a futurist or none of the above? Is there even a right way to approach futures thinking?\n\nIn this presentation\, Travis Kupp—Strategic Design & Foresight Lead at Truist and Chair of PRIMER2020—will explain the fundamentals of the field of Futures\, the differences in how humans (and other life forms) approach the future\, and why Futurists don’t and shouldn’t have a monopoly on the future.

SUMMARY:IDSA NL: MIAD 4th Annual Red Marker Event
DESCRIPTION:Formerly known as Portfolio Review Night\, the Red Marker Event is a night dedicated to getting valuable feedback on portfolio and presentation skills by peers\, professors\, and professionals. During the evening\, groups will roam the gallery space\, giving you the opportunity to present your projects. They are then free to critique + write directly on your modules. This is a great way to get feedback or ask questions to improve your skills on visual and verbal communication. \nEach student who reserves a space will get a section of the gallery to display their work. Sections will also be organized by grade level. The space will show a printed portfolio module of their best work\, and the student can also show a full portfolio or model on a pedestal. The format is up to the individual student\, and what they believe best showcases their efforts. \nHope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Talk: The Secret to Innovation is Emotional Intelligence
DESCRIPTION:Designers can access FREE REGISTRATION with the code INDUSTRY20. \nCurrently\, one of the most under-appreciated aspects of the creative process is found in the basic human condition\, Emotional Intelligence (EQ). \nThere are many people who go through the normal process of childhood all the way through adulthood\, yet rarely take the time to look at WHY they think the way they do\, and how they got themselves to where they are. Generally\, there is a lack of critical thinking and the ability for self evaluation/self management. However\, the more we look into this\, the more that we learn that early life experiences of all levels contribute to how we perceive things and our levels of empathy. \nEmotional Intelligence is a natural progression or development that comes out of various situations that Designers/Creatives were exposed to during developmental and crucial learning periods of their lives. The reason emotional intelligence is so important to analyze and understand lies in its effects on psychological development\, and the output it can create when it takes the form of creative processes. \nMore often\, when people have certain situations that are hard to overcome during their formidable years\, there is a chemical and psychological transformation that occurs. This allows for a different level of sensitivity when looking at problems and/or applying empathy as a driver for research or just inquisitive exploration. \nKirsten Belaire MA\, LPC and Jason P. Belaire\, IDSA will explore how designers/creatives can start to understand their own emotional intelligence levels. They’ll also explain how to use EQ to think more critically and manage ourselves better in ways that can lead to innovation.

SUMMARY:IDSA CLE: Rams Screening & Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Come to Cleveland Institute of Art’s Peter B. Lewis (PBL) Auditorium for a special screening of “Rams.” The film will begin at approximately 7:00 pm\, but be sure to arrive early for appetizers\, beverages\, and networking with the design community. After the screening\, stick around for a Q&A discussion with four Greater Cleveland based designers: Dan Cuffaro (Chair\, Industrial Design at CIA)\, Angela Clark (Root Art\, Design and Strategy)\, Carla Blackman (Design Interface)\, and Pete Whitworth (Smartshape Design). \n“‘Rams’ is the new documentary by filmmaker Gary Hustwit (Helvetica) about legendary designer Dieter Rams. For over fifty years\, Rams has left an indelible mark on the field of product design with his iconic work at Braun and Vitsoe\, and his influence on Apple. “Rams” is a design documentary\, but it’s also a rumination on consumerism\, materialism\, and sustainability. Dieter’s philosophy is about more than just design\, it’s about a way to live. The film also features an original score by pioneering musician Brian Eno. More info and trailers here: http://www.hustwit.com/rams”
