1993 Motorola
At its annual conference in Atlanta, Georgia, IDSA honored Motorola,
"in appreciation for the corporation's unwavering dedication to IDSA
and the industrial design profession. Generously donating funding, services
and volunteer time, nurturing generations of dedicated design leaders,
and setting a high standard of corporate excellence, Motorola's commitment
to design has made the company a leader in global competition. As such,
Motorola has set an example for other corporations to follow."
The award was accepted
by Rudy Krolopp, FIDSA, Director of Design for Motorola. Rudy graduated
from the University of Illinois and received IDSA Fellowship in 1978.
He designed the first cell-phone, the DynaTAC 8000x in 1983, and the first
pocket cell-phone, the MicroTAC in 1989, both for Motorola where he was
Manager of Industrial design for many years.
