1990 Design Management Institute
At its annual conference in Santa Barbara, California. IDSA honored DMI, "for consistently excellent conferences on design management, exposing the profession's leaders to the most advanced concepts in management."

The Director of DMI is Earl Powell, IDSA. DMI was founded in 1974 by William J. Hannon, Jr to provide a forum for corporate design executives at an annual conference on Nantucket Island. By 1977 it was headed by Peter Lawrence until 1985, when Mr. Powell succeeded him. In 1989, DMI joined with the Harvard Business School in initiating a worldwide traveling design management exhibition called TRIAD.
