Craig M. Vogel,
FIDSA
President of the Industrial Designers Society of America
(IDSA), 1997-1998
Craig Vogel earned
an undergraduate degree in psychology at the Marist College and a Master
of Industrial Design from Pratt Institute. He has held teaching positions
at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; the Institute of Design,
Illinois Institute of Technology; and the School of Architecture, Victoria
University of Wellington (New Zealand). He has lectured on design history
and design theory at universities in America and the Far East.
Vogel is a Professor
and Director of Graduate Studies in the School of Design at Carnegie Mellon
University. He has a courtesy appointment in the Biomedical Engineering
Department and teaches an integrated new product development course with
faculty in business in engineering.
Professor Vogel is
a fellow and past president elect of the Industrial Designers Society
of America. He was on the planning committee for the international exhibit
Aluminum by Design and authored a chapter in the book by the same name.
He is co-author of the book Creating Breakthrough Products with Jonathan
Cagan a professor in engineering at Carnegie Mellon. Cagan and Vogel are
involved in research, program planning and consulting. They work together
and independently with a variety of companies that include Ford Motor
Company, GM, Whirlpool, New Balance, Alcoa, Motorola and Respironics.
