Bob Blaich,
FIDSA /FRSA
Living in Aspen,
one wonders why one would leave to go anywheres else. However I still
do. As Chairman of Teague Design (Walter Dorwin Teague) I am often in
Seattle, and take the opportunity to cruise the San Juan Islands. As Vice
President of Design for the World in Barcelona Spain, I am there several
times a year and this May spent several weeks touring Andalusia. As a
member of the Board of Advisors and visiting Professor of the University
of Art and Design in Helsinki Finland and the Board of Advisors of the
Center for Designand Business at the Copenhagen Business School, I am
often in Scandanavia, and last year keynoted a conference in Alesund Norway.
As a member of the
Board of Overeers of the Institute of Design at IIT, I am often in Chicago
and spoke at this years IDCA Midwestern Regional Conference there. And
as a graduate of Syracuse University (BFA 1952, Honorary Doctorate Honorus
Causa 1990) I have been selected as a 2001 "Letter Winner of Distinction"
given to past Varsity letter winners (Tennis and Skiing) for their lifelong
achievement for example: IDSA Worldesign Award 1990, A Dutch Knigthood
in 1991, and my years as head of design at Herman Miller and Royal Philips
Electronics. When home in Aspen I am Chairman of the Planning and Zoning
Commision. The Aspen Design Review Board and the Board of the International
Design Conference in Aspen. I still play tennis several times a week and
as a "Ski Ambassador" for the Aspen Ski Company I skied 71 days
last winter (my age) I am still married to the same woman (Jan) after
48 years and have 3 sons, and 5 grandchildren. So "Life is Good."
