Stephen B. Wilcox, FIDSA | Design Science
A principal and the founder of Design Science, a 40+ person Philadelphia-based firm that specializes in consulting services to optimize the human interface of products for clients, such as J&J, AbbVie, Medtronic, BD, and Merck. Much of Design Science’s work is concerned with helping to make products fit a more inclusive range of users. Wilcox is a former chair of the Human Factors Professional Interest Section of IDSA, a former IDSA VP, and a member of the IDSA Academy of Fellows. He is currently the Editor in Chief of Ergonomics in Design and the interim Director of the Strategic Design MBA Program at Philadelphia University.
He holds a bachelor's in psychology and anthropology from Tulane, a doctorate in experimental psychology from Penn State and a certificate in business administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He has published more than 70 articles in professional journals and given many invited addresses to various organizations.
Wilcox has chaired the Include Conference on inclusive design at the RCA in London multiple times, has won design awards from IDSA and from International Design magazine, has guest edited Innovation, and has served as a judge in a number of product design awards competitions, including the IDEA and MDEA (Medical Device Excellence Awards). His book, with Michael Wiklund, Designing Usability into Medical Products, was published in the winter of 2005.
