START.ac

START.ac is a CrowdFunding community for industrial designers, entrepreneurs and other innovators.

CrowdFunding is when many people pledge small amounts of money (typically $10 to $200) to fund a project.  For example, let’s say a designer needs to raise $30,000 for a factory production minimum of a new watch design; if 430 people pledge $70 each - the project is funded and the watch becomes a reality! The designer pays the factory, the watches are made [and the designer has already “sold” them to waiting supporters].  Pretty cool!
