Ryan Larcom, IDSA | Indiana Chair

Ryan Larcom is a designer trapped in an engineer’s body.  He discovered design midway through college (as a mechanical engineer at Rochester Institute of Technology) and since it was too late to turn back, he pushed on – focusing his Masters degree on Industrial Design and spending a summer working for Design Continuum in Milan, Italy.

Upon graduation, he began work as an interiors engineer at Honda R&D in Columbus, Ohio, designing interior parts for the 2008 Acura TL (which won a Ward’s “Interiors of the Year” award), the 2009 refresh of the Acura MDX, the 2010 Honda Odyssey, and the door linings for the upcoming redesigned Acura MDX.  While in Ohio, he acted as a Student Mentor for the IDSA Columbus Chapter, developing college students from the Ohio State University and Columbus College of Art & Design.

He got married in 2011 and relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana where he currently works for Cummins as a design engineer on the world’s largest high-speed diesel engine: the QSK95.  He continues to seek opportunities for design education and using design for social impact.
