Are you passionate about creating great experiences?  Do you have an appreciation for “big picture” systems thinking?  Can you bridge between the creative and analytic, in order to design compelling experiences?  Are you an Industrial Designer who also has interest in Interaction Design?  Crown Equipment Corporation is looking for an experienced Senior Industrial designer to join our team.

The Crown Design Center is an award winning design organization, which supports global product development initiatives for Crown Equipment Corporation.  Crown designs, manufactures industrial material handling products.  The Design Center’s backdrop is scenic New Bremen, Ohio, where the corporate campus takes the shape of a quaint Midwestern town.

The Design Center currently has an opening for a Senior Designer who can help us bring sharp, compelling and differentiating interactive user experiences to our products.  This is a new position added to a growing team, and the successful candidate will have responsibility for researching, conceptualizing, developing and aiding the implementation of superior user experiences for Crown’s information technology products, (embedded lift truck interfaces, mobile and web applications).

The position reports to the Director of Design - North America and will also support research activities and priorities of the Design Research Manager.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct customer and user research to understand unmet needs of customers and validating product offerings.
• Analyze and document user needs, task analysis, product requirements, competitive products and industry trends.
• Create representations of customers’ needs with task/system maps, wireframes and interactive prototypes that are consistently innovative, substantive, focused and timely.
• Collaborate with Crown Design leadership and other Crown departments to ensure that initial product requirements are met throughout product development process.
• Create documentation for Crown software developers.

Specific Skills:

• Demonstrated ability to plan project and research activities supported by a well-developed knowledge of technology.
• Proficiency with design tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office and Apple iWork/iMovie/FinalCut)
• Excellent analytic, communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications:

A Bachelors Degree in Industrial design with a minimum of 5 years professional experience and experience with all phases of product development is required. An interest and/or prior experience in Interaction Design is a plus.
